About Lakazur

The Colors Are Ancient. The Story Is Yours.

Lakazur is a handcrafted jewelry studio built around one material above all others: high-quality natural lapis lazuli.

We do not use lapis simply because it is natural. We look for material that has the qualities we want to see in finished jewelry: rich and relatively even blue, very little visible white calcite, a fine and compact-looking texture, and a smooth, attractive luster after polishing.

All lapis lazuli used in LAKAZUR jewelry is undyed, unfilled and untreated. Its color and mineral character come from the natural stone rather than artificial enhancement.

That standard shapes nearly everything we make. Most of our jewelry is handcrafted in small batches so we can select, compare, and match the stones rather than treating every piece of lapis as interchangeable.

We also use other natural materials, including cultured pearls, mother of pearl, amber, and selected gemstones. They are not the center of Lakazur. In many designs, they are there to support the lapis – to add contrast, warmth, lightness, or texture while allowing the blue stone to remain the focus.

High-Quality Lapis Lazuli Comes First

Natural lapis lazuli varies enormously. Two stones can both be genuine lapis and still look very different in color, texture, calcite, pyrite, and overall finish.

For Lakazur, “natural” is only the starting point. We are much more interested in what the material actually looks like once it has been cut and polished.

Our preferred lapis typically shows a strong, saturated blue with good visual consistency. We favor material with very little visible calcite, because large white areas can break up the blue and make the finished piece look less clean. We also pay attention to texture: finer material tends to look denser, smoother, and more refined after polishing, with a better surface luster than coarse or chalky-looking lapis.

Pyrite is judged differently. Fine natural gold-colored flecks can be attractive, but more pyrite does not automatically mean better lapis. For many of our pieces, we prefer the blue to dominate, with little or no visually distracting pyrite.

Natural is the starting point. Quality selection is what defines the piece.

Handcrafted Because the Material Is Not Uniform

Most Lakazur jewelry is made in small batches, with much of the work completed by hand. Depending on the design, that can include selecting individual stones, matching color and size, arranging beads, assembling components, stringing, finishing, and making final adjustments.

This matters especially with lapis. A single beautiful bead is not enough for a fine necklace or bracelet. Once many stones sit next to one another, even small differences in blue tone, calcite, pyrite, texture, or polish become easier to see.

Working by hand gives us more control over those decisions. We can remove a bead that interrupts the color flow, regroup stones that belong together, or keep a design simple when the lapis already has enough presence on its own.

Other Gemstones Are Supporting Materials

Lapis lazuli is the visual and material center of Lakazur. Other gemstones are used selectively, often because they bring out a particular quality in the blue.

White pearls can create a soft contrast with deep lapis. Mother of pearl can make the blue feel cleaner and more graphic through its pale iridescence. Warm-toned amber can introduce a different natural color without competing with the stone. Metal choices can serve the same purpose: warm gold can intensify the richness of royal blue, while darker or antiqued finishes can work well with softer, more calcite-rich material.

We choose these materials as part of the design, not to broaden the brand for its own sake. If a second material does not make the lapis look better or make the finished piece more balanced, it usually does not need to be there.

Clearly Presented, Without Exaggeration

Buying natural gemstone jewelry online requires trust. You cannot hold the stone before ordering, so the photographs and description have to do real work.

We try to show important natural variations clearly and describe the material as accurately as possible. We do not want to turn ordinary material into something extraordinary through vague grading language or an elaborate story.

We also do not promise that a gemstone will heal, protect, bring luck, or change your life. Gemstones can carry history and personal meaning without those claims.

What matters to us is simpler: use better lapis, select it carefully, make the jewelry well, and present it honestly.

Ancient Colors. Modern Stories.

Lapis lazuli has been worn for thousands of years, but we want it to feel natural in contemporary life: in a clean pendant, a carefully matched bracelet, a simple pair of earrings, or a strand of blue beads that does not need unnecessary decoration.

We can tell you about the material, how we selected it, and how the piece was made. What it means after that belongs to the person who wears it.
